A new study and toy room for ill children [2010-05-19]
MGL Charity were extremely successful in 2009 with their funding raising. With the help of much appreciated donations they were able to provide the psychotherapy department within the Mongolian Children’s Hospital with a common room for its residential children to spend their free time working and playing in. Unfortunately with the growing number of children admitted to this department supplies of everyday objects are running out. There is a shortage of learning aids, for example books and creative equipment. This equipment is essential to the treatment of the children. It is used by the doctors for therapy and also ensures the children are not missing out on the school curriculum during the stay. ... more
The Celebration of Mongolian a New Year [2010-02-11]
The Celebration The day before New Years Day is known as Bituun, meaning “to close down”. At the eve of the old year there is a celebration called Bituuleg. There is a big amount of “covered food”, where the meat is covered by for instance a layer of dough. Also the Ul Boov is created: a pile of ceremonial bread (boov) in an odd number of layers. Later traditional games can be played, and oral histories are told. It is said that at Bituun Baldanlham, a local god, is riding her mule during this time. She would be coming by three times so every family puts three pieces of ice on the top of the door of the ger, or on the balcony for people living in an apartment, for the mule to drink. ... more

WHY STREET CHILDREN Why Street Children | Why do they come to the Streets Where do they Sleep | How do they Live
From the web www.mongolia.worldvision.org.uk According to government statistics, there were no street children in Mongolia in 1990. Under communism, everyone had a job and enough income to keep their family. If families weren't able to look after their own children, or if children were orphaned, the government cared for them in special children's homes. In 1990, Mongolia changed to a free-market economy. Russian subsidies stopped, and Russian managers and technicians went home. Many Mongolian businesses collapsed, leaving thousands out of work. With no hope of improving their lives, many people turned to vodka for solace. ... more
   The street children
There are around 150-200 street children who are currently living within the Tolgoit rubbish centre in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Those children, who are aged 3-19 were unable to go school and spend every day searching for food and clothes within the rubbish. In extreme Mongolian climate, which can reach -40°c in winter, some of the children can almost freeze to their death so at least a ‘ger’ would allow these children to stay in warm place. Number of street and homeless children have are grown recently due to Mongolian poor economic situation. These children have come from the poorest Mongolian rural areas. Most children came from single parent who were unable to feed their children. ... more
